SWEDEN NO MATCH FOR UNBEATEN FRANCE

GROUP E

France stayed on the winning track at the U16 European Championship Women in Ptolemaida, after defeating Sweden 65-50 to set up a promising final Group E game against Russia. Sweden still have a chance to reach the Quarter-Final Round in last winnner-takes-all game against Serbia.

The French entered the game against Sweden as the highly favoured team and they lived up to expectations as they dominated their opponents.

After the first quarter they were already up by eight points. This lead grew bigger in the second quarter and the contest was effectively over after the French went up 60-40 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Head Coach Jerome Fournier was able to distribute the playing time equally among his players to make sure his key players got an important rest. Olivia Epoupa scored 12 points while Mousdandy Djaldi-Tabdi had 10 rebounds to go with her 12 points.

Sweden had a top performer in Paulina Hersler who marked nine points and nine rebounds. Despite their second loss in the Qualifying Round Sweden still have a chance to qualify for the last eight but a win over Serbia tomorrow is the requirement for this achievement.

France have already clinched a berth in the Quarter-Final Round. Nonetheless their match-up with Russia is one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament so far. The winner will claim the first spot in Group E.
